Ok, so I'm no expert, but last I checked, it was ill advised to operate a mill with a. long hair b. long sleves c. a "why don't you go ahead and decapitate me" set of keys around ones neck...
Oh well, I guess this is the "wenches" tribe... maybe I'm just a stickler for safety.

Re: The picture
Tue, January 27, 2004 - 5:37 PMI wasn't operating, I was instructing.. the mill was off. My hair is out of the way. None of the machine shops I worked in ever asked me to cut it. I taught welding and machining at the same time, hence the long sleeves. Incidentally, we were issued the exact same coveralls at one of the places where I worked doing a lot of machining. And I was not allowed at any time to remove the keys from my neck. They contained the master key to the school and keys to the supply rooms and my office. -

Re: The picture (my ass kissing apology)
Tue, January 27, 2004 - 6:22 PMSorry, I guess that came out more bitchy then funny (my attmept) - allthough my instructor would have had a heart attack if my hair wasn't plastered to my head (NTMA in Fremont) - Yea EDD retraining programs. Where do you teach? It's been over a year and a half since I've set foot in a shop, I'd love some refresher instruction. (Not that I really have any current need to machine anything, but it was cool to learn and maybe less intimidating to learn from another chica.) -

Re: The picture (my ass kissing apology)
Wed, January 28, 2004 - 4:34 PMI don't teach anymore. I had to get back into the shop. Got tired of paperwork. Got tired of sitting back and watching while the students did everything. I'm not ready to retire yet! Luckily, another wenchy friend of mine who is also a welder and machinist took the job. At times I kick myself for leaving (usually around vacation times).
You would have had to be in high school anyway.
Chabot College in Hayward has the best machining program of any community college. The classes are cheap and you can even get into CNC stuff there. The instructors I've met have been really cool. Check it out! I've been seeing a lot of job listings for CNC machinists lately. Maybe I should take some classes there. -

Wed, February 4, 2004 - 10:54 AMI go to Chabot College, although I don't take machining (yet). I'm in the Auto Tech program, currently AC w/Franko, Tues and Thurs. Next Fall, the Advanced Engine Rebuild class will get me. ;) -

Wed, February 4, 2004 - 8:52 PMOoh! Awesome!
Is there a young girl named Juli in your class? She was in the auto tech program at the R.O.P. where I taught (which is right across the street). She's doing the program at Chabot now. Great facility! -

Thu, February 5, 2004 - 8:05 PMNope, I go to school at night, and I'm the only one w/out a "Y" chromosome in the entire building at that time... ;)
Yeah, I do like the facility, although I usually use my own tools, as theirs are a little worn. :)
